The researchers at the University of Arizona captured some stunning photos of the largest canyon in our solar system. It’s the Valles Marineris canyon on Mars, which is around five times longer and four times deeper than the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Valles Marineris, or Mariner Valley, runs along the Martian equator. It’s 4000 km (2500 miles) long and up to 7 km (4 miles) deep. Another scam aiming at photographers has been going around lately. Sadly, it’s pretty believable and seems legit, so it’s easy to fall for it. Apple has just introduced two new updated computers sporting brand new M2 chips, the M2 Pro and M2 Max, two next-gen SoCs (system on a chip). The chips are being used in the 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro and Mac Mini computers. The chips are the next generation of Apple Sillicon, and allegedly push performance to “new frontiers”. They are certainly a step up from the M1, however, how much of a step is up for discussion....
Meike has announced various affordable lenses so far. Two years after launching the 85mm f/1.8 lens for Canon, the company has now announced the Nikon F version of this affordable autofocus lens. The Meike 85mm f/1.8 is designed for full-frame Nikon DSLRs. Of course, you can also use it on crop bodies where it will provide 127.5mm equivalent focal length. While Meike lenses are mainly manual focus, this one is an autofocus lens, just like its Canon EF counterpart....
It’s been a sad tale over the last few years for Photokina. After their last great show in 2016, it was announced in 2017 that Photokina would be shrinking in size and duration and shifting over to an annual schedule from 2018 and a new month from 2019. Well, they still had their show in 2018, but then 2019’s show didn’t happen, and neither did 2020’s (for obvious reasons), ultimately resulting in Photokina calling it quits and deciding to end the show for good....

Swiss website, Digitec recently interviewed OM Digital’s Vice President of Sales and Product Management for EMEA, USA and Canada, Sandro Rymann. In the interview, they cover topics such as the transition from Olympus to OM Digital, the struggles of starting a new company in the middle of a global pandemic, cooperation with Panasonic and new gear. And in a rather amusingly worded answer, Mr Rymann did indeed confirm that there is a new camera coming in the next few weeks, and it won’t be the only one to come during this fiscal year....
We’ve covered many interesting patents from Canon so far. The one spotted recently reveals that Canon’s 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens will get a new design and feature a small LCD display like the one on the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM. The patent JP2018005130A shows a sketch of the new lens and refers to a “lens information display.” Canon Rumors has a PDF of the patent, it’s in Japanese, but you can see the illustrations at least....

Sony is expected to announce the new Sony FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G lens on Tuesday, March 22nd but as often seems to happen, information has leaked ahead of the official announcement. There isn’t a lot of information but there is a price – a UK price – as well as several images of the upcoming lens. There’s the product image above, but there are also a couple of photos showing the lens in use on what appears to possibly be a Sony A7S III mirrorless camera with a Sony ECM-B1M microphone perched on top and a Sony FX6 cinema camera....

Well, this is both interesting and also a shame, if it turns out to be the case. Ricoh has today announced the rumoured WG-7 waterproof compact camera. It’s capable of shooting for up to 2 hours continuously at a depth of up to 20 metres with impact resistance from drops of up to 2.1m and cold resistance down to -10°C. But, it looks like it’s only being announced in Japan....
