Sony shooters, if you use a Mac, there’s a rather concerning issue regarding the Sony firmware update application. First highlighted by software expert Lloyd Chambers back in October 2017, Sony’s updater essentially forces you to give it root access to your system. After Facebook enabled sending 4K images through Messenger, the company has improved the app once again. From now on, you will be able to share your 360-degree photos and HD videos with the selected friends through Messenger app. Sending the 360-degree photos and HD videos will be the same as sending any other media. You can use your phone’s Camera app or any other third party app. To send videos, though, you can also do it straight from your News Feed....

When AI-generated faces became more widespread and available, some people feared that these fake portraits could be misused. Well, their fears came true. On Friday, Facebook removed almost a thousand of fake profiles, pages, and groups that used photos generated by artificial intelligence. And according to the sources, all of them were used to push political, mainly right-wing campaigns. All of the deceptive profiles, pages, and groups are a part of a “global network” allegedly used to push pro-Trump narratives to millions of users on Facebook and Instagram....

Chinese fashion photographer Chen Ma was criticised for perpetuating Western stereotypes of Chinese women in her latest campaign image for fashion brand Dior. The image was labelled as “insulting” to Chinese women as they do not posses the fair skin and big, round eyes, and that it was racist. The image in question shows a woman in traditional Chinese dress, with visible freckles and heavy make-up, holding up a handbag....

In response to user feedback over the Godox XPro trigger, Adorama has now announced the R2 Pro Mark II trigger for Canon. Don’t worry, Nikon. Well, it seems to be a moment for lenses, huh? After Fuji’s two new lenses with the Fuji X-H2S announcement, Sigma’s new lens and Sony’s three new APS-C lenses, Fuji’s added three more to the X mount lens roadmap. The three new lenses are the Fujifilm XF 56mm f/1.2, the XF 30mm f/2.8 R Macro and the XF 8mm f/3.5. Fuji X-H2 camera was announced yesterday right after some specs had leaked. And if you’re thinking of buying it but don’t have lenses, Fuji thought of it too. Along with the camera, Fujifilm has announced two new APS-C zoom lenses: XF 18-120mm f/4 R LM PZ WR and XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR. The first can cover all of your shooting needs, especially if you’re a beginner or a hobbyist, and the second one lets you get really close to your subject and it’s ideal for wildlife and sports....

Well, this is a surprise. And not really the good kind. While everybody’s been waiting for Panasonic to announce a GH6, which is apparently, definitely on the way, the specs leak for a new Panasonic Micro Four Thirds camera. It’s not the GH6, though. Oh no, apparently it’s the GH5 Mark II. And it’s not going to have the specs people were expecting for a hypothetical GH6, either. The specs have been leaked via Nokishita and, well, really, it looks like a pretty tiny incremental update over 2017’s Panasonic GH5....

After a 15-year-long dispute, The World Trade Organization approved that the United States can impose trade sanctions on some products from the EU. The US is about to apply $7.5 billion in punitive tariffs on the EU products. Among other things, it will affect German camera lenses, making them 25% more expensive. But in essence, the World Trade Organization ruled that the French company Airbus has received significant subsidies in the European Union over the years....

The death of Bowens earlier in the year was met with surprise from many photographers. But it paints a fairly clear picture. That even though more people are using flash now than ever before, some flash companies are struggling. Perhaps it’s a lack of innovation or lacklustre customer support.
