Apple Will Replace Your Dodgy Macbook Keyboards For Free Under New Service Program

It looks like the Apple “Butterfly” keyboard saga may have come to a conclusion. After being hit with two class-action lawsuits last month over the keyboards in MacBook models since 2015, a third one was brought about at the beginning of this month. In response, Apple has now launched a new Keyboard Service Program to replace faulty keyboards in MacBook and MacBook Pro models. As well as repeating several claims made in the two prior cases, this third suit also alleges “fraudulent concealment” of the problem....

Aputure has announced their new Light Storm 600D – non-Pro version. It features many of the same capabilities as the LS 600D Pro but does lose a few of its more advanced functions, along with weather sealing. It also loses $500 off its price tag, coming in at $1,390 rather than the $1,890 that the Pro model commands. Essentially, it’s an indoor version of the LS 600D Pro. Aputure says at the LS 600D performance is essentially the same as the LS 600D Pro, which means you’re still going to get the same light output and colour accuracy, with its CRI and TLCI of 96 at 5600K....

Baby Plate Bounce Card Gear Hack

Foamcore are an incredible asset for work inside and outside the studio, but there is always the question of mounting them. One way is using a reflector arm and another is holding them with pony clamps, there is even a DIY holding solution. Photographer Tony Roslund shares another low-budget option which I really like: Using a baby plate and some gaff tape. The nice thing about this solution is that its super low footprint on one hand and completely portable on the other....

There’s been a lot of chatter and speculation lately about the potential overheating issues with the new Canon EOS R5. While some of the overheating modes had already been released, there were still questions to be answered....

Canon Wants To Make Its Concept Desktop Surveillance Camera As Not Creepy As Possible

Canon has unveiled a new concept camera – something they seem to have been doing with alarming regularity over the last couple of years. I think it’s actually quite interesting, seeing a big brand like Canon taking on some of the ideas that would simply be seen as “gimmicks” had they been done by a lesser known company. This new one, though… Well, it’s definitely a little strange. It’s called the Posture Fit and it’s essentially a camera that sits on your desk watching you....

Context Matters When Viewing Covid 19 Photos

Since mid-March, various policies have been implemented at the state and federal level in the U.S. to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19. Photojournalists initially covered long lines at big box stores then vanishing crowds in some of the most trafficked places, but as we move into a shelter-in-place mode, photographers of all stripes have been trying to adjust to a new reality of maintaining their sanity and creative expression as the specter of death casts a long shadow....

Corel Paintshop Pro Gets A 2020 Update With Intelligent Editing Tools For Photographers

Other than Windows Paint, Paint Shop Pro was the first imaging application I’d ever used. It was in the 90s, Windows 95 hadn’t even been released yet, and “Paint Shop” was still two words. So, it was fairly crude by today’s standards, but at the time it seemed like magic. I didn’t even realise they were still around until a few months ago, but now they seem to back in full force....

A couple bought an $800 Nikon P1000 for bird photography. And when it broke – the company could do nothing to fix it. Even though the camera was bought at Walmart, Nikon considers it to be “gray market gear” and won’t repair it, leaving the couple with a “$800 paperweight.” Bruce Gaylord bought the camera for his wife Lisa back in September 2019. Dear Adobe Please Add These 16 Features To Photoshop

Photoshop has plenty of fantastic tools, although there are some that many of us never use. Similarly, there are some tools that photographers would love to have, perhaps instead of those “useless” ones. Unmesh Dinda of PiXimperfect suggests 16 tools that should definitely become a part of Photoshop and make our editing workflow way more efficient. Now, Unmesh isn’t a developer (and neither am I), so maybe some of these things aren’t possible....

Diveroid Turns Your Smartphone Into A Fully Fledged Dive Camera Computer And Logger

This looks like a pretty cool underwater case if it does what it says on the tin. Or, well, does what it says on the Kickstarter campaign. It’s an underwater enclosure for your smartphone (any smartphone – so they say) that communicates with your phone over Bluetooth. It even features built-in heating to prevent the insides fogging up. It’s probably a little overkill for just snapping photos of your friends and family in the pool, but if you regularly go diving, it looks pretty handy....

Do Look Up And Watch Nasa Smash A Space Ship Into An Asteroid Live Tonight

It sounds like the plot of an ‘end of the world’ sci-fi movie. But this is not fiction. Today, NASA will be attempting to power a rocket into an asteroid to alter its course. And you can watch it live, via possibly the world’s ultimate field-cam, the asteroid-cam. NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirect Test (DART) is headed straight for the asteroid called Dimorphos. The asteroid will be struck at around 14,000 mph and is billed as a test drive to see if the technique could work even a tiny bit in the case of an asteroid coming dangerously close to hitting the earth....
