Looking at the old, faded black and white photos brings us closer to history and connects us with some past events. But seeing these pictures in color makes you feel an even stronger connection with the people and events in them. Young Brazilian restoration artist Marina Amaral colorizes black and white photos and gives them a new, different life. And she does such a magnificent job, that it’s hard to believe the black and white photos were turned into color ones, and not the other way around....
Italy-based photojournalist Matilde Gattoni recently got the result of her lawsuit against clothing retailer Tibi. Now that the judge has made the decision, it may be of interest for all photographers. While copyright registration of Gattoni’s photo in the US was still in progress, Tibi changed her photo and posted it on their Instagram page. After she sued for copyright infringement and violation of Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the court dismissed the charges of copyright infringement....
Zhiyun has today (yes, today, not yesterday) announced the new Zhiyun Weebill 2 gimbal. A couple of retailers jumped the gun a little early yesterday, but now, Zhiyun has made it official. It looks a lot like the Weebill S, but it has a neat flippy out full-colour touchscreen LCD and a few other tricks up its sleeve. As well as the new LCD, the Weebill 2 dumps the 18650 batteries in favour of a built-in battery that you can charge while you’re using it (with USB-PD support!...
Hot on the heels of the Zhiyun Crane M2, Zhiyun is teasing another new gimbal. The Gimbal S, designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. As well as the video above, there’s a teaser page on the Zhiyun website where they say they say they “push the limit” on compatibility, listing such cameras as the Sony A7III, Canon EOS R, Nikon Z6 and Panasonic S1. The new Gimbal S seems to be something of an alternative to the Weebill LAB, which the teaser page specifically mentions, although with the more traditional gimbal form factor....

Tip 1 The first tip is to enjoy the editing part. As much as many photographers these days say, “shoot more”, “edit less”, “wouldn’t you rather spend your time photographing than editing” and yada, yada, yada you have to learn some proper editing techniques. 500px has caused some outrage within the community a couple of times over the past year or so. One of the platforms popular users Michal Karcz was recently threatened to get banned because he’s been posting photo manipulations, which is against the website’s policy. All that wouldn’t be strange if 500px itself hasn’t previously featured him on its own blog, praising his skills in digital art. Michal has been on 500px for more than five years....
It’s difficult to come up with original GoPro footage these days. Everything’s just been done. But this is something I haven’t seen before. YouTuber Mr. Michal secured what looks like a GoPro Hero 7 Silver one into his lathe and spun it at various speeds up to 1800 revolutions per minute. At slower speeds, it looks pretty cool, like a handheld motorised gimbal in “vertigo” mode. As the speed increases, though, so does the nausea factor....
If you thought the $17,000 White Edition Leica M10-P was expensive, you’ve seen nothing yet. A rare Leica M9-P prototype has shown up on eBay for the staggering sum of $50,000. But, for that price, you do get a lens. Interestingly, it’s the same Summulix-M 50mm f/1.4 that comes with the aforementioned White Edition M10-P, only this one has orange accents, instead of white. The camera is marked with the number “2/20”, and the description for its listing reads… Leica actually posted a video back in 2012 of the production model Hermes M9-P being made....
ACD Systems, makers of the popular (and long-running) ACDSee imaging software have announced that they’re making the move to video with their new Luxea video editing software. Their goal, they say, is to simplify the video editing process to save time and allow users to focus on the content, and not the editing. Luxea supports resolutions up to 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) and frame rates up to 60 frames per second....
Adobe has announced the release of both Photoshop Elements 2022 and Premiere Elements 2022. Both use new Adobe Sensei AI-powered features which according to Adobe will “take your photos and videos to new creative heights.” Both the Photoshop and the Premier versions of the Elements software have some exciting new features, from a new warp tool, the ability to easily turn images into works of art, creative motion overlays, making your pet photos picture purr-fect, and much more....
It seems that every major web-based company is jumping on the social media bandwagon these days. Just a few days ago, Google added hearts and star icons to Google Photos. And today, Airbnb is launching Travel Stories, which pretty much like Instagram Stories made specifically for travelers. You can now access the feature on the current Airbnb app for iPhone. The iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) has announced the winners of its 2022 contest. Believe it or not, the contest is celebrating its jubilee this year: it’s been 15 years since it’s been around, just like the iPhones. I feel kinda old now. Anyhow, the 15th annual competition received thousands of submissions from all over the world, and it has selected the best of the best. Antonio Denti from Italy won the Grand Prize, but there are many other stunning photos among the category winners....
When the pandemic began, everyone started offering software that turns your DLSR, mirrorless, or phone into a webcam. Apple has joined the 2-year-old trend and it will soon finally enable you to use your iPhone as a webcam. What do you mean, “improve the native Mac camera?” Nah, you can attach your phone to it for your Zoom meetings. The Verge shared Apple’s demo on Twitter, showcasing the possibilities of the upcoming Continuity Camera feature....
