This Is What Happens When You Re Too Eager To Get The Perfect Shot

Last night, the College Football Playoff National Championship was played between Alabama and Georgia. After the game-winning touchdown, both the crowd and the players were ecstatic. In the overall madness, one photographer also got a little carried away… and he got knocked down by an ecstatic football player In the video above, you can see the moment when the touchdown is scored, and everyone gets frantic. I guess the photographer wanted to catch the perfect moment of the celebration, but he had a bad timing, apparently....

This Is What The Light From A 500W 500 Led Looks Like

LEDs are developing at a ridiculous pace lately. They’re getting more colour accurate and much more powerful. The power of LEDs often comes at some expense, though. While LEDs do run much cooler than traditional tungsten lights, they can still get rather hot. In this video, Matthew at DIY Perks unboxes a very beefy 500 Watt LED. After hooking up the power, we see just how bright it is. What’s particularly crazy about it, though, is that the LED itself isn’t much bigger than a postage stamp....

This Is Why Some People Think A Lens Is Awesome And Others Say It Sucks

No matter what the lens, when I see people asking for opinions on one online, I see a pretty wide mix of “It’s awesome, it never leaves my camera!” and “It sucks, I sold it within a week” type responses. If you’ve ever wondered why there are such polarising opinions on any given lens, then wonder no more. In this video, Michael the Maven discusses one of the things that’s rarely spoken about when it comes to lenses, and that’s manufacturing tolerances....

This Is Why You Absolutely Need A Polarising Filter

Filters have largely gone the way of the dinosaur with digital photography. Lens filters, that is. The simple fact of the matter is that they’re just not needed now. We used to need a whole array of filters when we shot film. Solid colours to shift the contrast on black & white film. Variously coloured graduated filters to shift skies warmer. Now, you can do all that in post. Colour shifts and gradients are pretty straightforward in Lightroom or Photoshop....

This Photographer Climbed The Spire Of One World Trade Center To Shoot Photographs And 360 Video

For most sane and rational people, being invited to climb the spire at the top of One World Trade Center to photograph the view would probably result in a flat out “no”. For others, it’s definitely a “yes“, “sure“, or “absolutely!“, even when not entirely legal. But when professional mountaineer and photographer Jimmy Chin is asked to do exactly that on assignment for the New York Times, it results in some amazing imagery, and a great 360° mini-documentary....

This Photographer Is Using Video Games To Teach Photo Composition

Game screenshots are common and popular on social media, and have been a thing ever since streamers started streaming. I’ve never been a big fan of calling “video game photography” photography (they’re still just screenshots), but they can still be a valuable teaching aid when it comes to things like composition and lighting (depending on the game). And that’s exactly what Texas-based pro car photographer Mir-or-Image has been doing in his new series on YouTube....

This Photographer Used Ai To Help Create These Exquisite Joan Of Arc Images

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been hitting the headlines a lot lately. According to popular opinion, it will likely destroy art, photography, and the creative industries as we know them. But is that the whole story? Perhaps we are missing something here. Surely there is a reverse side to all the doom-mongering? Well, photographer and digital artist Chris Koeppen may actually have found that silver lining. Chris, who goes under the creative alias of An Ethereal Fire, has been using AI for good instead of, you know, evil....

Tiktok Adds Photo Mode Feature Which Is Strangely Similar To Instagram

If you’ve been following social media news recently you’d be right to think that the apps have all gone a bit crazy having identity crises. Ultra Rare Dragonfish Captured On Camera For First Time

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) has captured some incredibly rare footage of a bronze coloured dragonfish. While there are several types of dragonfish, this particular type is extra elusive. The highfin dragonfish (Bathophilus flemingi) can grow to be seven inches long and usually lives at depths of 740 to 4,500 feet below sea level, well out of the range of most underwater filming equipment. “MBARI researchers have observed a few different dragonfishes in the depths of Monterey Bay, but this one is the rarest we’ve encountered,” the institute wrote on Twitter....

Great White sharks have earned quite a reputation for their aggression, largely due to the film Jaws. However, they are fascinating creatures and we still know relatively little about them.
