Described by one Facebook commentator as the reason “why people hate the young generation!”, opinions seem pretty consistent regarding the new city feature. The reaction on Twitter doesn’t seem to be much better....

One of the biggest issues for photographers and filmmakers working on location is that of power. Many of us carry spare batteries of multiple kinds in our bags whenever we go out to shoot – for me, that’s usually 6 batteries each for 2 cameras, a couple of big USB power banks and my Novoo. What do you do when you shoot in the harsh wind? Well, photographer Mathieu Stern learned it the hard way that he should add weight to the tripod when it’s windy. Although he has quite a collection of cheap vintage lenses, the wind managed to tip over the tripod with his camera and an $800 Sony E 10-18mm f/4 lens. Since he was shooting the video at that moment, he accidentally captured the unfortunate event, too....

In December 2014 I decided that I wanted to practice shooting the night sky in order to expand my photography skills. Of course I made every possible mistake. H&Y Filters, the company behind the Revoring magnetic filter system are releasing a new “Swift” modular magnetic filter system that they say works for both photographers and filmmakers. They even have a magnetic matte box! They’re claiming it to be a world’s first system that targets both types of user, which is probably accurate as most only seem to focus on photographers, but I think some video guys are going to need some convincing....

So this is an interesting round-up of specs that’s just been posted to Sony Alpha Rumours. If true, the long (long!) awaited A7S III is going to get Sony video shooters very excited. Interestingly, Sony seems to have stuck with a 12-megapixel sensor, for maximum light gathering ability and to more closely match the native 4K video resolution – It would also be pretty beneficial in the speed department. SAR does say that this information is coming from multiple sources, and some of it may not be entirely accurate as they say the sources only saw prototypes and not final units....

I love that large format seems to be coming back in fashion. I really do. In the last couple of years we’ve seen some great new large format cameras come into existence, like the Intrepid, and the Chroma – the latter of which we saw in person at The Photography Show. Now we have a new one, The Standard 4×5, which is made from 3D printed parts. It’s is being billed as a DIY 4×5 large format camera that you can build yourself – which is a really awesome idea....

Well, it looks like Nikon might have finally done something right. According to a Nikkei XTREND article, the Nikon Z fc released in July “has been a hit for the first time in a long time” for Nikon. It seems to be largely put down to its “appeal” towards both young people (who like that retro look) as well as middle-aged and older people (who used cameras when they did still look like that)....
