There’s been quite a bit of hype surrounding Autel’s three new drones in the Autel EVO II series. Designed to compete directly with DJI’s range of Mavic drones, the EVO II comes in three flavours, two of which can shoot 8K 10-Bit video (one of these has a thermal camera, too) and another which has a relatively massive 1″ 6K sensor. But Autel has told DPReview that the drones will “likely be pushed back to a March release”....

They say to never work with animals or children and while I agree with the children part of that, I’ve always been quite partial to working with animals in front of my camera. Billboards are often ignored. You can walk past a hundred of them in a day and not remember what a single one of them was promoting. We just kind of tune them out. This one in France, however, is a little difficult to ignore. Especially if you’re crossing the street when you’re not paying attention. The original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera was wildly popular when it was released. A Super 16mm sensor HD camera capable of shooting RAW video at consumer level prices. What’s not to love? It was a great little camera, but it’s not without its issues. Many of the problems with the BMPCC were updated with firmware, but in 2018, such a camera needs more to compete. And more is what Blackmagic have given us, by announcing the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (BMPCC 4K)....

Blackmagic has just made a pretty significant price drop across most of its popular Blackmagic Atem Mini product line video switchers. The 8-input Atem Mini Extreme series remain at their original prices, but the 4-input Atem Mini, Atem Mini Pro and Atem Mini Pro ISO, however, have had very large chunks knocked off each of their prices. The base model Atem Mini has dropped from $295 to $195, the Atem Mini Pro sees a $200 drop going from $495 to $295 and the Atem Mini Pro ISO, which will allows you to record all four video signals, as well as the final mix, has seen the largest drop, going from $795 down to $495....

After Calumet’s closure of US based retail stores and filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2014, it was pretty clear they were in trouble. With Bowens, this news comes as something of a surprise, however pulling out of The Photography Show at the last minute was a big clue that something was up. In a not too surprising move, The Photography Show organisers have just announced that this year’s physical show at the Birmingham NEC, originally planned for March and rescheduled for September has now been cancelled. Instead, TPS 2020 will be a virtual show on Sunday and Monday the 20th and 21st of September. What is surprising, however, is that TPS 2021 is not scheduled to return at the traditional March date....

I recently had a few prints made from some medium format negatives. The prints are for a specific purpose so I wanted them to be of the highest quality possible, this meant taking them to a local specialist where the film was scanned with a Hasselblad Flextight X1. The Flextight is about the best quality scan you can get, before moving up to dedicated drum scans that can be messy, time consuming, and expensive....

Canon has developed a new CMOS camera sensor that offers a high dynamic range of up to 20 stops, with super high low light sensitivity. The LI7050 is a 1/1.8″ CMOS sensor is an impressive little beast, but this is just early days. The sensor is quite small (measuring only 7.11 x 5.33mm) and captures only a mere two megapixels. It’s also a rolling shutter, not a global shutter. So, there is still a way to go before we might start to see this kind of tech in a full-frame camera, but Canon says it will go on sale to gear manufacturers as early as October....

Rumours of a mirrorless 1DX level body have been around for a while. Since before the 1DX Mark III development was even announced, actually. But now according to a new report on Canon Rumors, it looks like it might actually be on the cards for 2021. They say that Canon “will definitely be announcing an RF mount mirrorless version of the EOS-1D X Mark III in 2021”. Whether that means, a literal mirrorless version with pretty much the same specs and features or to replace what would be the EOS 1DX Mark IV is unknown, although it’s set to come in the second half of the year....

As the latest addition to their EOS Cinema cameras, Canon has launched EOS C200. It features a super 35mm CMOS sensor paired with Canon’s Dual DIGIC DV 6 image processor, which allow shooting up to 4K DCI resolution. With its compact size and powerful features, Canon EOS C200 could be, as DigitalRev refers to it, “the ultimate run & gun camera.” Canon EOS C200 is compatible both with Canon’s DSLR lenses and with the entire range of EF-mount CN-E cinema prime and zoom lenses....

Well, it can be yours for $29,999 plus $155 shipping, anyway. But the shipping’s practically a bargain. We often hear about those “rare” lenses popping up on eBay and various other places, but this one does appear to actually be pretty rare. It’s a Canon 45-200mm f/2.8 (C35) prototype lens, and the seller claims it’s never been sold before in the “whole eBay selling history”. They say that the lens was introduced by Canon in 1959 in a press release, but that it never made it to market....

Canon has announced its latest cinema camera, the EOS C300 Mark III. Contained within is a Super 35mm Dual Gain Output (DGO) sensor with up to 16 stops of dynamic range “for superior HDR recording and low noise”. As one might expect, it has an EF lens mount on the front which means it works with Canon’s range of EF mount photography lenses, but also cinema lenses, including 2.0 and 1....

After almost a year of detention, award-winning Chinese photojournalist Lu Guang has been released. He has been documenting China’s dark side for years, and in November 2018, he got arrested. He has been released a few months ago, but he is reportedly still kept under surveillance. Around this time last year, Mr. Lu went missing, and his wife Xu Xiaoli shared on Twitter that he last heard from him on 3 November 2018....
