38 year old Paul M. Skinner had been accused of engaging in a conduct that created a “substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury to another person”, and was charged. It comes from an incident in June 2015 when a woman was knocked unconscious when struck by Skinner’s drone during a Pride parade in downtown Seattle. Seattle Times reports that Seattle Municipal Court agreed on Friday, and found him guilty of reckless endangerment....

In 2018, Mars is once again so close to Earth, that it shines brightly in the sky and casts an orange light on the water surface as it rises. In the early hours of yesterday morning, thieves broke into the Ffordes Photographic Ltd camera shop in Inverness, Scotland. They took a huge amount of Leica cameras and lenses, and now the shop is appealing for help. Ffordes initially took to Facebook to let people know what was going on and who to contact if they have any information. They have also now released an extensive list of all of the items that were stolen along with serial numbers....

One morning last December, I woke up and noticed that a dream of mine came true: I had taken a picture that went viral. A picture I took at a friend’s wedding had been shared by UNILAD on Facebook with the caption “Best wedding photo ever.” It had over 300,000 likes and was gaining hundreds by the minute. Unfortunately, they also added an instagram-worthy filter to it, but I figured I shouldn’t complain–the exposure was worth it....

If you have been a photographer or videographer in the last 40 years or so, you probably hate fluorescents. Fluorescent tubes are such a crude way of lighting. They flicker, give our horrible (and unpredictable) color casts, and they can not be dimmed. Just horrible. We previously reviewed the Nanlite Pavotube 30X as a replacement for some fluorescents, but what about those other fluorescent bulbs? Those thin, easy-to-break, really annoying, enlengthen tubes?...

Juno spacecraft has brought us some of the most incredible photos of Jupiter over the last few years. It recently flew close to Jupiter’s giant moon Ganymede, and it’s the closest any spacecraft flew to it in more than 20 years. During its flyby, Juno took some photos, and as usual – it didn’t disappoint. The first two images were sent back to Earth and they give us a wonderful and detailed look at the icy mammoth....

According to BRProud, the US Department of the Interior is proposing to double or almost triple the price of admission to 17 America’s most popular national parks. They say that the prices will double or almost triple the current admission fees during peak season. The proposals would see the cost of a 7-day car pass increase from $25-30, depending on the park, up to $70. The general public have a couple of days left to offer their input on the proposal....

Canon has released new firmware for the Canon EOS R to add compatibility for their new 600mm f/11 STM, 800mm f/11 STM, RF 1.4x & RF 2.0x teleconverters and the new LP-E6NH battery. They say that “operation of playing back through the multi-function bar has been improved”, too. No other changes have been mentioned. They’ve also released firmware updates for seven of their RF mount lenses to improve compatibility with the in-body image stabilization found in the new Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 mirrorless cameras for increased stability....

In late May, Fujifilm teased the Instax Mini LiPlay, another analog-digital hybrid camera with LCD screen. It’s now officially announced, and other than bringing together analog and digital, it also adds audio to the experience. Just like the previously released Instax Square SQ10 and SQ20, the Mini LiPlay shoots digitally, but lets you print photos on Instax Mini film. This allows you to keep the digital versions of your photos and print them as many times you want....

Well, people have been wondering what would replace the Godox AD360II in the Godox flash lineup ever since the AD200 was released last year to replace the AD180. Now it seems we may have an answer, thanks to some photos posted to Facebook by “Rainbow Store-Camera“. The post and photos claim to show a new AD400Pro strobe unit. If it is a fake, whoever’s made the images has gone to great lengths to trick everybody....

Megadap has announced a new MTZ-11 Leica M to Nikon Z adapter that adds autofocus capabilities to the manual focus Leica lenses when used on Nikon Z mirrorless bodies. They’re billing it as the “World’s first” such type of adapter, although that might only be half-right. Techart showed off their TZM-01 last week, although the Megadap adapter appears to be the first one to actually come to market and is already available to purchase....

Nikon’s been pretty quiet about new mirrorless camera developments since the launch of the Z6 and Z7. Other than the Z50, we’ve seen very little action at all on the Z mount system at all, except for the obvious lens expansion. But now, according to Mirrorless Rumors, Nikon is getting ready to announce the Z5 next month. If the Z6 is analogous to the D750, the Z5 looks like it could be a continuation of the potentially-discontinued D600 series, set to compete with Canon’s EOS RP....

Today’s a big of a mixed day for Nikon. On the good side, the Nikon Z6 & Z7 has just received a new firmware giving it Eye-Detection Autofocus. On the bad, Nikon has just issued a recall stating that some Z6 & Z7 cameras are having VR issues. Issues that can’t be solved with a quick firmware update. You’ll need to send it back to Nikon to get it sorted....

Nikon has announced the new Nikkor Z 17-28mm f/2.8 lens. We all knew it was coming, there have been several rumours that a “new” Nikon Z lens was on the way, and there were also rumours that this might be yet another rehoused and rebadged Tamron lens and it seems that the rumours were true. The optical makeup is pretty much identical to the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD for Sony....

It looks like Canon’s not the only one hurting this year. Nikon has just published their financial report for this fiscal year, running from April 1, 208 until March 31, 2019. While the company as a whole seems to be on the up, they report a 17.9% reduction in revenue compared to the 2019 fiscal year with a drop in operating profit of 27%. The drop in profit brings Nikon’s fiscal year 2019 operating profit down to 22 billion yen, a drop of around 8 billion yen....

How many times have you gone to look for a battery charger and it’s just nowhere to be found? I know I sure have. I seem to have about five different chargers at the moment between different Nikon and Panasonic cameras for different batteries and I always seem to be able to find all the chargers except the one I need at that very minute! Well, Nitecore wants to solve that problem, at least for shooters, with their new Nitecore UFZ100 battery (their alternative to the Sony NPFZ100) which features a built-in Type-C USB socket so you don’t need a dedicated battery charger....

The expectation that OM System will release a long focal length (long for Micro Four Thirds, at least) macro lens has been around for a while now. A macro lens in the 90-105mm region popped up on the lens roadmap way back in September 2021, and development of a 90mm f/3.5 Macro was announced in a September 2022 roadmap update. Now, thanks to a firmware update for the E-M1 Mark II, E-M1 Mark III, E-M5 Mark III, E-M1X and OM-5 cameras, we know it’s on the way soon....

According to new rumours, Panasonic is set to announce two new full-frame mirrorless cameras this week at Photokina. They say that there will be an entry level model and a high-end camera offering 20 and 50 megapixels respectively. The latter of the two is also expected to offer a 150mp pixel shift mode. Kicking off a new camera system with two new cameras doesn’t seem that far-fetched after Nikon’s recent simultaneous Z6 & Z7 announcement with their new adventure into mirrorless....
