Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen managed to do what many photographers dream of. He recently had his photo hung at a prestigious art gallery. But the thing that adds a bit of a comedy element to the whole story is that the photo is a selfie. And a pretty blurry one. Josh snapped a selfie when he got off a plane after his team’s win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was 2 am and very cold outside, yet the team’s fans (the “Bills Mafia”) showed up and cheered....

Back in August, it was reported that Canon suffered a ransomware attack that affected over 30 of its external and public services. In a recent statement, Canon confirmed that the incident occurred. The company added that the employees’ data were stolen in the attack, including their Social Security, driver’s license, and financial account number, electronic signature, date of birth, and more. In a statement reported on Canon Watch, Canon writes that the ransomware attack was identified on 4 August and the company took measures straight away....

Canon has previously been very quiet on the topic of 3rd party RF lenses. Last year, all of Samyang’s autofocus RF mount lenses disappeared from the market and just a week ago, so did all of the autofocus RF mount lenses made by Viltrox. Samyang didn’t say a word about why theirs left the market but Viltrox has told customers that they’ve been ordered to stop selling RF mount products by Canon....

Here’s a fun patent from Canon – a lens that sucks. And I mean this quite literally. This lens incorporates a mini vacuum cleaner that cleans your camera sensor from dust. Canon patent application 2019-191432 shows this interesting lens design. As we all know, our sensors collect dust particles over time as we change lenses. If there are too large particles, they interfere with your photos. With this patent, Canon wants to solve this problem and let you remove large dust particles without having to remove the lens and clean the sensor....

BCN Retail’s latest rankings are out for the Japanese camera market, which has been showing some pretty alarming trends over the last few months. Primarily that Sony’s share of the full-frame mirrorless market has plummeted from 60% to 43.9% and falling while Canon’s has gone up from about 25% to 34.7% and looking to keep going. The trends also show that while Nikon seems to be down on average, they do seem to have climbed a little in the past couple of months....

I still remember clutching a pair of Nikon D100 bodies back in 2004 when Nikon announced the insanely high resolution 12MP D2x. It seemed so wild back then when other high end bodies were still only 4-8MP. People lamented on various forums about “the laws of physics” and how quickly the megapixel race would end. Macro ring flashes can be expensive, but trying to shoot macro without external lighting of some kind can be extremely difficult. Canon are hoping to do something about this with a new EF-M f/3.5 28mm STM macro lens for Canon Mirrorless cameras, if these leaked photos are true. Bearing a plastic mount, it seems that this lens is aimed at the entry level, those hoping to make a start on their macro journey, and is expected to have a lower price as a result when it is officially announced....

Canon is fast investing in its lineup of RF mount mirrorless cameras. This year saw the announcement of two new APS-C mirrorless cameras from Canon: the R7 and R10. Now new rumours have been flying around that Canon’s next camera will also be a cropped frame sensor mirrorless camera intended to address the vlogging market. What if I told you that i only used one light to create this image. It’s true. I used one of my favorite lighting modifiers— a DIY reflector. To make it I covered a sheet of cardboard with self-adhesive mirror tiles, first scoring it in two places for easy folding. It works well with both studio strobes and sunlight, with the ripple texture of the cardboard adding a dappled appearance to the light....

Fuji Japan have released an official statement that Fujifilm X-T2 orders have been delayed to overwhelming demand. It’s no huge surprise, really, that this was going to be a popular camera. X-Pro 2 performance in an X-T1 size package? How could it not be? Amzazon’s product page for the X-T2 now shows that shipping is expected “1 to 2 months” after placing your order. Drone restrictions and regulations across the world often cite theoretical collisions with “real aircraft” as justification. Although it’s not so theoretical this time. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have released a report detailing an incident involving a DJI Phatom 4 and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter. Although it didn’t end in the destruction and devastation often portrayed on TV, it did leave a 1.5″ dent in the chopper’s propeller....

Designed for both the land and air, the new DJI Focus remote follow focus system wants to change the way we record our aerial footage. No longer are we limited to hyperfocal distance and infinity focus lenses that have everything sharp. Now, we’re able to nail focus on our subject and use cinematic focus pulling techniques while shooting from the skies. If you want to control your camera in the air, then you are limited to using DJI’s Inspire1 with the X5 or X5R cameras, but with a cost of $1,999, it’s highly likely that anybody looking to spend that kind of money on a follow focus for a drone may already have one....

DJI’s hotly-anticipated FPV drone has been leaked (again). And we’re not just talking about a photo or two this time, but an entire unboxing video, courtesy of SpiderMonkey FPV who mirrored the original video after it was taken down. The packaging in the video is the full FPV combo kit which includes the drone itself, controller and the new DJI V2 goggles. Obviously, the drone still hasn’t been released yet and the “NOT FOR SALE” and “DISPLAY DEMO” stickers indicate that this is a pre-production or display model in preparation for the expected official launch next month....

DJI just updated their DJI go 4 app to flash a warning about new rules once you start the app. One way of looking at it is as a clever way to let all drone owners about upcoming regulation changes. Another perspective suggests that DJI is trying to fight the new regulations by inciting fear of monetary losses. Indeed when you go deeper into the message you’ll find that DJI suggests that you comment on a remote ID proposal that has vast implications for DJI as a drone manufacturer....

A drone pilot from Philadelphia recently earned a massive $182,000 fine from the FAA. He allegedly broke multiple regulations over 26 separate flights over the course of only one year. Drone attorney Jonathan Rupprecht has analyzed the case and explains how it is even possible for the FAA to know when and how you’ve broken the rules. Rupprecht has obtained a copy of the penalty letter but kept the pilot’s identity hidden....
