Spanish duo Daniel Rueda and Anna Devis are creatives, explorers, architecture lovers, and photographers. They travel the world and capture what they see in a creative and incredibly pleasing set of images. They shoot interesting architecture, but act as subjects in these photos too. This adds a unique perspective and creates a story that makes their photos even more appealing. Their photos are pleasing tot he eye and somehow even soothing....

Multiple exposures can add a totally new dimension to photos, making them dream-like and surreal. Ben Dauré is a filmmaker and photographer from Leeds, UK, and his work is eye-catching in every possible way. He photographs human eyes and uses multiple exposures, which results in truly unique and breathtaking images. And what’s more, he does it all entirely in-camera. We bring you some of Ben’s awesome work, and he was kind enough to share with DIYP how he creates it....

We have heard it many times, “a dog is man’s best friend”. What is not so usual is that a dog and an owl can find common ground. German nature photographer Tanja Brandt has captured a unique series of images that depict a special relationship between the German shepherd dog, Ingo, and Poldi, an owl. Fortunately, animals do not suffer from prejudices and they do not discriminate based on gender, status, money, positions and so on....

Looking at a print 24 square meters large up close is impressive, but having it made from a contact print elevates it to quite a different level. Contact print is a way of printing photographs in which the negative (or positive) is pressed against a the photo paper and then exposed. This creates a photo at the same size of the negative. (Long, long time ago, this method was used to create a full sheet of images from a roll of 35mm film)....

From relighting images to removing backgrounds, the applications of AI tools in photography are many. The new AI-powered tool introduced by Chinese scientists can accurately fill in the blank spaces in all kinds of photos. Be it a front of a building, a landscape photo, even a portrait – the AI is trained to fill in the gap surprisingly accurately. The researchers have named the tool PEN-Net (Pyramid-context ENcoder Network)....

Steve Birnbaum is a director, photographer, and music explorer. When he combines all these passions, he creates photos that “revisit music history one picture at a time.” He selects photos of famous musicians and finds the exact locations where they were shot. He overlays prints with their locations, creating entirely new photos that sometimes touch us deeply as we look at them. For his project, Steve used photos of icons like Bob Dylan, Joan Jett, Nick Cave, Roger Waters, and many others....

Books are awesome, and so is photography – and an indie bookstore from France found an awesome way to bring these two together. Librairie Mollat‘s staff express their creativity in a fun way and take photos of their customers paired with book covers. This technique is known from before, but the photos on Mollat’s Instagram page are among the best book-face matches I’ve seen so far. They are funny and cool, and sometimes the lines and even the tones match so well that it’s just great....

We’ve shared some epic toy photos here on DIYP, and young Anthony Schmidt has just joined the group of artists I’m very proud to present. This boy is only 12 years old and he is on the autism spectrum. He has a big passion for toy cars, but they don’t just sit in his room. He takes pretty awesome photos of his toy cars making them look life-sized, using only a smartphone....

Thanks to NASA’s Mars rovers, we’re learning more about the Red Planet. But they allow us to enjoy some remarkable photos, too. Recently, the Curiosity rover captured a rare sight on Mars: clouds. Even though this landscape photo looks like it was taken on Earth, it’s actually a rarely seen cloudy day on our neighboring planet. Due to the thin and dry atmosphere of Mars, it’s not very common to see the clouds there....

Thanks to my job, I’ve seen some fascinating drones so far. But the drone I discovered today, along with its unfortunate choice of name, made me burst into laughter. It got me wondering if the person who thought of the name speaks English, and how well they speak it. Because with such name, along with the photo, aerial photography is definitely not the first thing that comes to mind....

Can you ever have enough of awe-inspiring photos taken by the Hubble telescope? I know, me neither. NASA recently published another incredible image captured by Hubble, and it shows a spiral galaxy far, far away. As far as 150 million light-years from the Earth! I enjoy space imagery in general, but I find photos of spiral galaxies to be almost hypnotizing. This one shows the galaxy NGC 5037 found in the constellation of Virgo....

There are a lot of great tools out there for moving your camera these days, and there are plenty of more affordable options out there for most of them, too. Including camera cranes. So, why did Ivan Miranda decide to build his own? Well, when you break your tripod, need to replace it and have a whole bunch of large 3D printers at your disposal… Why not? This is a pretty large build, as you can see from the thumbnail above and it’s very different to the one we saw from Alex Chappel a few months ago....

As the Maharaja of Jaipur, Ram Singh II was famous for many things. It was during his reign that slavery, infanticide and other cruel customs were abolished. He was, however, also known for being a rather avid photographer. He could see the value of photography years before many people had even heard of it. In this collection of glass negatives, shot between 1857 and 1865, we get unique insight into the people he spent his days with....

On 26 November, NASA’s InSight lander arrived successfully on Mars. It landed, opened its solar panels to recharge the batteries – and sent in the first “selfie” back to Earth. This is the first image taken by InSight, one of many more to come. InSight was launched on 5 May 2018, and it has landed on Mars only hours ago. It’s designed to explore the Red Planet in depth, for the first time since it was formed 4....

The Zenit E is one of the Soviet Union’s most enduring photographic legacies. Designed in the mid-1960s, it was produced on an eye-watering scale. Millions and millions – as many as 12 million, some believe – were produced in Soviet factories until the middle of the 1980s, by which time it’s rough and ready charms were decidedly old hat. I reviewed the Zenit E in the early days of my own blog – it was one of the SLR cameras I’d burned a bunch of rolls through....

A drone video shared online has caused quite a stir over the past few days. It’s a drone footage showing the US Navy Blue Angels performing a flyover, with the drone flying way too close to the aircraft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJbGkpo0uEA The video was shot on 12 May, while the military jets were performing the America Strong flyover in Detroit, Michigan. Considering that most drone cameras have wide-angle lenses, it appears that the drone is on a dangerous proximity to the jets....

Perhaps you’ve already heard of OrangeMonkie, the company behind Foldio collapsible lightboxes. They’re now back with another gadget made for product photography. Foldio360 Smart Dome is a futuristic-looking lightbox for 360 product photography, and it combines all of the OrangeMonkey’s previous projects into one. The Foldio360 Smart Dome moves away from the usual rectangular light box shape. Instead, as the name suggests, it’s dome-shaped. It gives you uniform light and infinite white background, for those traditional, clean product images....

It looks like TikTok isn’t just the app other social media are trying to copy. This time, it’s TikTok that’s copying features from another app that’s been rapidly growing in popularity. That’s right, I’m talking about BeReal. After Instagram, now TikTok now has its own version of real-time dual camera view. It’s called “TikTok Now” and it lets you share “your most authentic moments” with your followers. TikTok Now is a daily challenge, just like BeReal’s entire concept....
