Light made big news when they announced the L16 back in 2015. A crazy handheld camera that was actually 16 cameras in one. Not much bigger than a smartphone it threatened the end of DSLRs. As cameras get smaller, the medium upon which the imagery is stored on must also get smaller. It is for this reason that the go-to storage format for many action cams and compact cameras are MicroSD cards. Usually, when it comes time to offload these images onto a computer or mobile device, a converter is needed to turn the MicroSD card into a full-sized card. A new adapter from Lexar is looking to change that though with an adapter that lets you directly plug a MicroSD card into the Lightning connector of any comparable iOS device....

Vitec Imaging Solutions, a division of The Vitec Group, has acquired New Zealand based camera slider and motion control company Syrp. The acquisition actually happened on January 23rd, although it seems to have received very little coverage. In a press release, Vitec states that “the acquisition of Syrp adds electronics and software features that control cameras to Vitec’s current product portfolio”. A portfolio that includes Manfrotto, Joby, Teradek, SmallHD, Lastolite, Lowepro and many more besides....

The race for more and more storage on tiny little cards just keeps on trucking. Although SanDisk showed off a proof-of-concept 1TB SD card way back at Photokina 2016 and ProGrade announced their 1TB CFexpress cards last April, it wasn’t until recently that Lexar had released a 1TB memory SD card that you could actually buy. Now, though, both SanDisk and Micron (the people who used to own Lexar) have beaten Lexar to the punch when it comes to scaling that down, having both announced their own 1TB microSD cards at Mobile World Congress 2019....

DJI has recently released a teaser for their latest drone, and it’s finally revealed. Meet Spark, DJI’s smallest drone so far. This compact aircraft practically fits into your palm, and it weighs only 0.66 lbs. Despite the price of their previous models, the latest part of DJI family costs half of, say, Mavic Pro. Spark features some pretty powerful features for a tiny drone like this, but it has certain drawbacks as well....

We recently reported about Facebook’s captcha that requires your selfie if your account gets locked. Yesterday they announced a couple of new features, again focusing on the photos of your face. The new tools rely on facial recognition, and according to Facebook, they will “help people better manage their identity” on this social network. In a Facebook’s blog post, Joaquin Quiñonero Candela explains that the new tool will use the same technology that suggests you which friends to tag....

One of the big issues for many photographers when it comes to mirrorless cameras is keeping that sensor clean – particularly when cleaning lenses. With DSLRs it’s easy. When they’re not actively taking a shot, the shutter is closed up tight and the mirror’s flipped down. With mirrorless, on the other hand, the sensor is often completely exposed. The word from CES 2018 is that Nikon’s upcoming mirrorless will have an entirely new lens mount. At least according to Nikon Rumors. Despite simply being a rumour, I can’t believe that this isn’t true. At least the technical specifications, if not the name, which NR suggest may simply be a working title for the new system. It just makes no sense for Nikon to keep the current F-mount system in a new mirrorless design, even if it is the same full frame as their DSLRs....

The Nikon EN-EL15 battery has been used in most of Nikon’s mid-range cameras since the release of the D7000. It’s still used in many of today’s popular Nikon DSLRs including the D500, D610, D750 and D810. Now Nikon have issued a voluntary recall on the EN-EL15 battery. It’s due to a short circuit that may potentially cause them to overheat and melt. Now, don’t worry, your cameras probably aren’t likely to turn into a Galaxy Note 7....

Never-before-seen concert photos of Nirvana from 1991 will go on sale as NFTs on February 20th, Kurt Cobain’s birthday. News of the release, however, has garnered much anger and backlash from Nirvana fans, accusing the photographer of cashing in and exploiting the dead singer. The photographer, Faith West responded to the criticism on social in an attempt to appease the livid music fans. According to a press release, the NFTs will range in price from $99 for a still image to $250,000 for GIFs....

Filter system manufacturer NiSi has just introduced Switch, a new filter holder that lets you hold two filters at once and rotate them independently from each other. It’s made for situations when you need graduated ND filters at different angles, so you can achieve optimal results in-camera. NiSi Switch works with the 82mm main adapter which is included in the following NiSi kits: V6, V5 PRO, and V5. It allows you to use two square filters and a circular filter (CPL or ND) and provides 360-degree rotation....

So here’s an interesting bit of news, if true. Panasonic is apparently getting ready to announce a new “Cine LUMIX” camera at the end of the month, according to a post on L-Rumors. There isn’t much information about it yet, or, well, any at all, really, except for rumours, but they have high confidence that they’re true. L-Rumors says that a “highly reliable source” says that it will have an L mount lens mount, along with a brand new full-frame sensor....

They have created a selection of 25 shortlists, and you get to choose a winner. Online voting is now open, and you can vote here. you can give your vote to one of the shortlisted photos until 2 February 2021, at 14.00 pm (GMT). After the voting ends, the winning photo will be showcased in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum until 4 July 2021....
