Having been initially announced in February of last year, the Maxima 7 LED light was finally released yesterday. In the time since the Maxima 7 was first announced and now, though, the top lights in that sort of category have been the Aputure 600D Pro and the Nanlite Forza 500. NASA has treated us with plenty of amazing photos from space, and their New Horizons spacecraft has recently captured two record-breaking images. 3.79 billion miles from Earth, the spacecraft snapped photos of Kuiper Belt objects which are now officially the farthest images ever taken by a spacecraft. The goal of New Horizons is to answer questions about Pluto, its moons, and Kuiper Belt objects. With its Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI), it has observed several Kuiper Belt objects and dwarf planets....

We’ve been fans of the Feelworld F6 Plus here at DIYP for a while. It’s a great monitor for what it costs, offering a 1080p IPS touchscreen display, LUTs and 4K HDMI support. Shutterstock has released a plug-in that allows you to find similar content in its library based on your image results on Google. Of course, it’s not for free, but it gives you the option to purchase stock photos for cheap in case you can’t use the image you want for copyright reasons. If you’re in it for the free images, then the plug-in called Shutterstock Reveal isn’t going to be for you....
After announcing only the development, and after some leaked specs, Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is now finally here. It’s a telephoto zoom made for Sony full frame cameras, but it’s pretty compact for the lens of its range. It’s pretty cheap too, with the price tag of $549. So, let’s see what it brings to the table. The new Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras....
Sigma have today confirmed the final pricing and availability of the Sigma sd Quattro camera and EF-630 flash units announced in February, along with a new bundle that includes the sd Quattro and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Art Lens. The Sigma sd Quattro is a mirrorless camera with an APS-C Foveon sensor, which Sigma claim as being “equivalent” to 39MP, and will cost a mere $799 body-only when it starts shipping in July....

Nikon has launched a trade-in program which offers discounts on Z6 and Z7 cameras if you hand over your working DLSR or mirrorless. And on top of your old camera’s value, you will get up to $400 additional discount. OM Digital Solutions – the new owners of what used to be the Olympus camera division – has registered a new camera, codenamed “IM024” in China. According to the registration, it’s equipped with 2.4Ghz WiFi and Bluetooth, but there isn’t much other information besides that yet. Exactly what is coming is unknown, although OM Digital Solutions has repeatedly said that they want to invigorate the brand and has plans to release “many” new products in 2021....
Advertisements Consider these two pictures: The first one I shot specifically to test a camera-clubby sort of online forum’s reactions. As predicted, they liked it pretty well (of course there were quibbles). I hate it. It is a stupid picture which, as presented here at any rate, signifies nothing. It “says” nothing about anything, it evokes nothing. There’s no story, there’s no context, there’s no particular feelings it might generate....
This past weekend, two thieves broke into an L.A. studio. They were filmed by the security camera, and it shows that they only spent six minutes inside. Still, they managed to steal over $100,000 worth of camera gear. The theft occurred in the night between Saturday and Sunday, shortly after midnight. Director and cinematographer Peter Cote told PetaPixel that the studio is “a warehouse-type building in south-central LA,” with lots of different spaces in it....
Panasonic has updated its full-frame L mount Lumix lens roadmap for 2023 by adding two new lenses. One new prime lense has been added at the 100mm (or 105mm) mark with a zoom around the 28-200mm range. The two lenses clearly full up some gaps in the Lumix L mount lineup, but when we’ll see them is currently unknown. The prime lens sits around the 100mm mark, but potentially 105mm....
Panasonic has officially launched LUMIX GX9, a new mirrorless micro four-thirds camera. It packs a lot of great features in a compact body and as Panasonic itself writes, it’s aimed at “amateur photographers wanting a professional experience.” It features a 20.3 MP sensor, shoots 4K video at 30fps, and allows you to save video frames as 4K photos. Many of the features are aimed at capturing the perfect shot, so it seems that this camera would be ideal for street photographers....
We all know the risks when we back a crowdfunding campaign. Although the risk is typically that the project will fail, the company goes bust, never delivers on the products and all the backers are out of pocket. What backers don’t expect is that a successful campaign backed based on set terms suddenly decides to start charging extra for part of that service way down the line. Chuck Westfall, a photography industry legend and Canon’s main technical advisor, died yesterday after a long battle with kidney cancer. He began his career at Canon at 1982 and as Canon writes, he worked his way up to become the Technical Advisor for the company’s Consumer Imaging Group. Westfall was loved and respected among photographers, and his death made the community shocked and saddened. Westfall’s love for photography dates way back before joining Canon....
Photos have leaked for a Ricoh WG-7. It’s a waterproof compact camera that will replace the Ricoh WG-6 which was announced in 2019. The leaked photos come via Nokishita, who say that an announcement for the camera is expected on June 17th, with shipping beginning on July 9th. According to their post on Twitter, the new Ricoh WG-7 will shoot 4K video and features a webcam function for streaming HD video....
