While the detailed creative brief made the project seem legitimate at first glance, my conversation with the real editor-in-chief of Miami Vibes confirmed that it was indeed a hoax. Let’s take a look at the scammer’s pitch and the warning signs to look out for....

Canon has recently suffered a ransomware attack that affected over 30 of its external and public services, including email and USA website. According to the reports, 10TB of data and private databases have been stolen. And if Canon doesn’t pay the ransom, they will be leaked publicly. BleepingComputer has investigated the case and found that 34 Canon domains have been attacked. This source has also obtained a message allegedly sent from IT Service Center as a company-wide notification....

Ricoh has now officially announced that their new flagship APS-C DSLR will be the Pentax K-3 Mark III. The news was made official in a progress update on the camera’s development. We’ve seen a couple of sneak peeks and updates in the past and the name was rumoured, although not confirmed until now. Along with this update, Ricoh has revealed the complete spec list for the new camera, which they hope to officially launch at CP+ 2021, scheduled to take place from February 25-28 in Yokohama, Japan....

It sounds like Canon is getting a lot more serious about the RF mount now. Sony has today officially unveiled its new 12-24mm f/2.8 G Master lens, and it’s not quite as expensive as originally thought. Yes, it will be $4,000, but only if you’re in Canada. For folks in the USA, it will be $3,000. That’s better than expected but still significantly more than the $1,400 Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art. But this is the world’s widest f/2.8 constant aperture full-frame zoom. While Sony does also have a 12-24mm f/4 G lens, the new lens offers that wide 12mm focal length with a stop more light and a slightly shallower depth of field....

For the most part, phone camera resolutions seem to have been stuck between about 12-20MP for the last few years. But Sony plans to change that and make super high-resolution phones a thing, with the announcement of a new IMX586 stacked CMOS sensor. The new sensor packs a whopping 48MP and uses a new Quad Bayer array to maximise sensitivity and dynamic range. With sensors this small, pushing the resolution higher and higher is a big challenge....
