It should be easy to translate between the two, right?...
Profoto has announced its latest generation of flash trigger, the Connect Pro supporting TTL in Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica and Fuji versions, as well as a non-TTL version for everybody else. Like most flash triggers, it sits in your camera’s hotshoe for easy remote control of one or multiple flashes. Up to six groups of lights (three with TTL) can be controlled by the Connect Pro through a large and intuitive user interface display, with 100 channels available to help ensure interference-free control and no conflicts with other nearby Profoto shooters....

When your loved one opens “the aperture,” they won’t let more light hit the camera’s sensor. Instead, the special ring will be revealed and hopefully make your significant other say “yes.” Matt Zabloski of Kelo Designs has been creating mechanical ring boxes for a couple of years now....
Relio first launched in 2015 via Kickstarter. It was one of the first tiny lights on the market and came in a variety of preset white balances with a moderately high CRI plus various colour options. In 2018, it was updated to Relio², with higher CRI and more configuration options for working with multiple lights. Now, they’ve taken it a step further with Relio² 2020 Edition. Once again, Relio has taken to Kickstarter to fund the project, and it’s over 1,150% funded....
A recent study exploring the gender bias in the photography industry has reported that despite comprising almost half of the photography-related workforce, women photographers are dramatically under-represented and lower paid than male photographers. This bias covers the industry as a whole, from day to day work and harassment, to the representation by major camera brands and news outlets. To coincide with International Women’s Day, the marketing company Wallflower Studios commissioned the report titled “Give us Features, not Flowers“....
Announced in April, Røde’s new Wireless GO microphone system has seen a very positive response. It’s the world’s smallest digital wireless microphone/receiver combination, and while you can use just about any 3.5mm TRS microphone you like with it, Røde has created one specifically for it. The new Røde Lavalier GO is a tiny lavalier, similar in size to their smartLav+, but with a 3.5mm TRS connector, instead of the TRRS found on the smartLav+....
NASA’s Perseverance rover has been all over the news ever since its successful landing on the Martian surface. The rover’s landing didn’t only leave the viewers in tears in awe, but it also left some garbage on Mars. In this satellite image, you can see the rover and its landing components scattered across the landing site. The ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter took the photo with its CaSSIS camera on 23 February....
The Sekonic L-308S meter is by far their most popular light meter. Fairly basic but very accurate and affordable, it’s the model that often introduces photographers to light meters. Perhaps they may eventually step up to something fancy like the L-478 or L-858, but the L-308 is usually where they started and the one they recommend to new photographers looking to get their first meter. Now, in the form of the Sekonic L-308X-U, Sekonic have combined the best features of the L-308S for photographers and the L-308DC for filmmakers....
Weird lenses are always fun, and they seem to be popping up quite regularly. But there isn’t much out there that’s weirder than this. This is a super wide-angle Iwerks f/2.0 lens, designed to project 70mm film. Here, though, Jay P Morgan is using it the other way around to get an ultra-wide view on the world shooting portraits in a local market. Jay P’s shooting the somewhat ridiculous looking lens on the Fuji GFX 100 medium format camera – which still doesn’t cover the entire projection circle of this insane lens....
Many interchangeable lens cameras these days come with some kind of kit lens. Something to get you up and running, shooting as quickly as possible, without having to immediately spend more money. Newer photographers who don’t already have a big stack of lenses often face a bit of a challenge. There are questions that can be difficult to answer. The biggest of which is whether or not the more expensive lenses are worth the price tag....
Sigma’s new 70mm f/2.8 DG Macro Art lens got a lot of people excited. At least, a lot of Canon, Sony and Sigma shooters. SmugMug and Flickr have joined forces once again, and this time, it’s to expand of their efforts to promote and preserve photography online. They’ve started Flickr Foundation, a new non-profit foundation dedicated to preserving billions of historic and culturally significant photos. Flickr and SmugMug want to keep them “safe, sound, and accessible for future generations,” so they can have a remarkable and easily available insight into history. “At SmugMug + Flickr, we believe that photography is an incredibly important visual record of our history,” says SmugMug and Flickr COO Ben MacAskill....
This personal project was born of lifelong pursuit of charting new paths upon the broad field of artistic landscape, combined with an unexplained passion for vintage ground glass focusing loupes. Many were hoping for more announcements from Sony today, but as rumoured, it’s just the lens. So while there’s no new high-end APS-C or a Sony A7SIII yet, at least the lens is now official as Sony announces the new 24mm f/1.4 GM lens for full frame Sony E Mount. At MWC 2018, Sony introduced new technology that could have even smartphone cameras “see in the dark.” Their dual camera prototype will be integrated into future Sony Xperia phones, enabling ISO of 51,200 for photos and 12,800 for video. In the video above (at 20:56), you can see a short presentation of the new technology Sony is developing. They claim that their new dual camera setup will be able to capture photos at very high ISO and “reveal the unseen....
After a recent leak over new 8K full frame Sony sensors, as well as the spec sheet for one of them, now we’re seeing information about Sony’s new “XEVC” codec, which offers 8K 12-Bit RAW 24fps video at up to 240Mbps and 1080p 10-Bit video up to 240 frames per second. Leaked through both Sony Alpha Rumors and EOSHD, the XEVC codec seems to be based around H.265 (HEVC) Version 2....
The chips are down and new cameras are getting harder and harder to get hold of. Sony has announced that they are suspending orders for another camera in their lineup due to the continued worldwide shortage of chips. The latest camera to be suspended is the Sony ZV-E10, a mirrorless vlogging camera that was released just in August. An announcement on their website says that it is due to a delay in “parts procurement due to the effects of global semiconductor shortages”....
Tours of factories and facilities are always quite popular to see. We’ve seen quite a few over the years, too covering things like lens and camera construction. Occasionally it’s photography and filmmaking accessories and sometimes even making film. Sometimes, though, as is the case here, we get to see the philosophy of the facility itself. Sony has posted up a peek inside its Osaka Office. It’s a facility dedicated to CMOS sensor development and was designed by the engineers who work there in order to maximise comfort, communication and productivity....
TTArtisan is reported to be announcing a new lens today. What makes it special – at least to TTArtisan and their fans – is the fact that it’s the company’s first autofocus lens. Designed for mirrorless cameras, the new lens has a 32mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2.8. Which mount versions will be released at launch, however, appears to be in dispute. Asobinet reports that the full-frame TTArtisan AF 32mm F2....
If Canon’s display of gear didn’t impress you the other day, this one might. A listening has shown up on eBay offering “1000’s” of cinema lenses for a cool $1,000,000. The listing, by Calkovsky Cinema Worldwide, contains well known names such as Canon, Zeiss, Schneider and Cooke. The description lists all of the lenses as tested and in “great working order”. Also included are “100’s” of adapters and dozens of antique wooden tripods....
