News Corp Australia is experiencing a severe wave of job cuts. One of Australia’s largest media companies is trying to make up for the financial losses, and photographers and subeditors are first under the impact. This media company owns over 100 newspapers. These include The Daily Telegraph, the Herald Sun and the Courier-Mail – which alone will experience 45 job cuts. Together with the other publications, they will have photographers made redundant....

A security camera recently captured an utterly bizarre wildlife incident in Mexico. A flock of birds suddenly smashed into the ground, and it looks like a scene from your worst nightmares. The incident took place in the city of Cuauhtémoc in the morning of 7 February. According to El Heraldo de Chihuahua, hundreds of yellow-headed blackbirds (Xanthocephalus) slammed into the ground. To me, this footage looks like someone poured them out of a giant bucket....

Nvidia unveiled their new Creator Ready Drivers (CRD) for the Titan, RTX 20, GTX 10 and GTX 16 series graphics cards at GTC 2019 last week and now they’re ready to download. Nvidia claims they offer increased performance while offering greater stability with the apps that many photographers, video editors and other creatives use on a daily basis. Applications like Adobe Photoshop CC and Premiere Pro CC, both of which, Nvidia says see up to a 9% performance increase....

If you are using one of the Sony A7X system as a stills camera, you are probably familiar with the EVF. It’s that little monitor at the back of the camera that shows you what the exposure looks like depending on exposure settings. Of course, you can also set the monitor to show you a constant “proper” exposure regardless of the camera setting. You can decide on this behavior using the “Live View Display: Setting Effect On/Off” menu....

A super-star of TikTok, Charli D’Amelio, published her first book in December last year. However, it looks like some photos in it were used without the photographer’s permission. In a series of tweets and a video, photographer Jake Doolittle accused the young dancer’s team of using photos without his permission and without any compensation. I’ve apparently living under a rock and had no idea that Charli D’Amelio is super-popular on TikTok....

Good photos come to patient photographers who wait for the perfect moment. And sometimes, you’re just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Amateur photographer Carly Adams was both. While photographing a humpback whale a few days ago, the magnificent animal treated Carly with a move she hadn’t expected. It breached close to a nearby boat, and Carly managed to take the shot of the moment....

I just love it when different forms of art intertwine and inspire each other. This is why I was immediately drawn to Canadian photographer Barbara Cole and her underwater photos. Although they have a painterly look to them, they were all photographed underwater, often at her own small swimming pool. It happens every once in a while that a celebrity gets sued for posting photos of themselves to Instagram without permission. And this time, it was supermodel Bella Hadid. The model reportedly shared a photo of herself to Instagram without the photographer’s permission, and he’s slapping her with a lawsuit in return. According to Page Six, the photo in question shows Hadid wearing a black-and-white-checked Tommy Hilfiger hat. She shared the photo with her 29 million Instagram followers, which led to a copyright infringement lawsuit....

We’ve seen photographer Josh Rossi turn kids into superheroes before. When his three-year-old daughter received hateful comments after he photographed her as Wonder Woman, the photographer decided to use his creativity to send a message against bullying. He gathered fifteen kids who have been bullied and turned them into Avengers for a photo shoot. This project hasn’t only resulted in epic images, but it has also empowered the kids who have been facing bullying and hatred on a daily basis....

In tricky lighting situations, most photographers expose for the highlights to prevent them from getting blown out. But this can create dark shadows which sometimes don’t preserve enough detail. After the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week, protests have developed across the United States. While covering the street protest in Minneapolis on Friday, photojournalist Linda Tirado was shot in the left eye. She was reportedly shot with a rubber bullet, but sadly, her eye could not have been saved. [Editor’s note: Some viewers may find the images in tweets below to be disturbing] The New York Times writes that Tirado wore goggles to protect her eyes while she was covering the protests....

It looks like Tokina’s getting ready to announce a new 11-18mm f/2.8 lens for Sony APS-C E mount cameras. No specs have been released or leaked yet other than the clues in the name of the lens. So, it features an 11-18mm focal length with a maximum f/2.8 constant aperture and it’s designed for Sony’s APS-C E mount cameras. We can also see from the photos that it’s a pretty compact lens and that there’s a micro USB port on the rear lens mount....

Adobe has today announced new updates for Adobe Photoshop on both the desktop and the iPad. For the iPad the Healing Brush and Magic Wand tools you know and love from Photoshop for Desktop have finally arrived. Photoshop for iPad also receives a new Canvas Projection feature, which allows you to send your image to an external monitor or TV while you’re working on it. Photoshop for Desktop sees a big upgrade with the Sky Replacement tool, with a bunch of new skies to choose from and the ability to import up to 5,000 skies at once....
