Samyang Optics (aka Rokinon) has announced XEEN 20mm T1.9 – the latest addition to their line of prime cinema lenses. Just like the rest of the series, XEEN 20mm is designed for the ultra-high definition video, and it features great performance for 4K+. XEEN 20mm compliments the series of seven previously launched lenses: 14mm, 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm. It features X-Coating Technology, which promises “exceptional image quality”....

This question just move from a theoretical question into a practical question as SanDisk just showed off their first prototype of a 1 Terabyte SDXC card. While this is not the first consumer 1 Terabyte solid state drive, it is the first one that fits in an SD card form factor....

Earlier this week, 150 umbrellas were put up in Culver Square, a shopping mall in Colchester, Essex, UK. Although photos have been all over Instagram and Facebook, one photographer was recently interrupted by security staff when he pointed his camera to the umbrellas. They allegedly told him that taking photos was forbidden and that he should have permission from the management. When you look up for #culversquare on Instagram, you’ll see over 1,000 photos with this hashtag, many of them featuring the colorful umbrellas....

When a UK woman whipped out her phone to take a photo of herself and her two siblings, the trio got struck by lightning the moment she pressed the shutter. After a leak back in September, and then the official announcement a week later, many people have been waiting for more information on the new Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports lens. Specifically, how much it’ll cost and when they can get their hands on one. Well, Sigma has now announced pricing and availability for the new lens, and it’s practically a steal at only $1,499. Available in Nikon F, Canon EF and Sigma SA mounts, it comes it at $600 less than the new Canon 70-200mm f/2....

It’s died down a little now, but last year there was an insane craze surrounding the Sigma Art series lenses so much so that I actually ended up buying 2 of them, selling them, then borrowing them again in the future for other shoots when I had no money. To be clear from the outset, I actually think the Sigma Art lenses kick serious ass, the sharpness, the focus ring, build quality, the price....

A report on Nikon Rumors suggests that Sigma is looking to expand its mirrorless lens product line in 2021. And we’re not talking about adding new lenses to the lineup, but expanding the number of mounts types they offer. So far, Sigma’s mirrorless lenses have only been available in L mount for Panasonic, Leica and their own cameras and Sony E mount. It appears that may be changing in 2021, though....

It’s been a long, strange trip for Sigma’s Foveon X3 sensor since the L mount alliance was announced in 2018. During that announcement, Sigma said they were working on a new full-frame Foveon L mount camera to come in 2019. Then in March 2019, its release got pushed to 2020. But in February 2020, Sigma announced that they were starting over from scratch. Now, in February 2021, Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki has posted a video to YouTube retelling last year’s story and the decision to terminate the contract with the original chip manufacture with whom they were collaborating....

There are musicians who don’t like seeing cameras in the crowd at their concerts. Some of them handle the issue with special pouches which ban you from using your phone camera during the show. Others go full metal and smash the camera pointed at them. At a recent show, singer Steve Lacy chose the second approach. While he was performing, a fan threw a camera on stage. The singer got mad, took the second camera from the fan’s hand, and fiercely smashed it against the ground....

There’s still no word on exactly when Skylum will deliver its Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, but it is most definitely on the way. Skylum have posted screenshots of the prototype software, and have also announced that it will be coming as a free beta for existing Skylum Luminar 2018 users. They’ll also receive a free copy of the final release version, too. Skylum has told DIYP that the beta testing programme consists of several stages....

While Slite’s claim of being “the world’s most portable light for creators” might not be entirely accurate (there are a lot of small portable lights out there for creators these days!), this new LED light currently running on Kickstarter does look rather interesting. It’s an ultrathin panel about the size of a laptop, runs off a Type-C USB power bank, has a magnetic back and offers the full RGB spectrum as well as 96+ CRI/99+ TLCI white LED lights....

Today, SmallRig announced their first COB light, the RC120D. This moves the company from being a cages and other mechanical parts manufacturer into the domain of Light Manufacturers. Brands like Aputure, Nanlite, and Godox. It seems that they are aiming right into the “bread and butter” product – the 120W COB LED. They do this with two new lights, the RC120B and RC120D: a bi-color unit and a daylight unit....

I can’t help but notice all those articles proclaiming mistakes we should try to avoid in order to become a better photographer. Admittedly, I have issues with such an approach. First of all: I hate the word “should”. Basically we “should” nothing. Secondly, there is not much learning in avoiding mistakes — we learn best from our mistakes and the more bittersweet they are the more carved into our memory they become....

Released in 2017, Sony’s RX10 IV has become a pretty popular all-in-one camera. It features a built-in Zeiss 24-600mm equivalent field of view lens with an f/2.4-4 aperture and a 20.1-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor that lets you shoot stills at up to 24 frames per second. Now, that two-year-old camera is seeing something of an upgrade. A post on the Sony Japan website states that real-time Eye Autofocus support for animals is coming to the RX10 IV....

If you were hoping for an A7SIII or A7000 announcement, then you’re out of luck. There were no new gear announcements from Sony during their press event at Photokina yesterday. Apparently, though, they plan to bring Animal Eye AF to their cameras. Ok, so it’s not just to help bring a better class of cat photo to Facebook, but to assist wildlife photographers. It makes a bit of sense after their recent release of the Sony 400mm f/2....

We can argue forever if gear matters or not, and we won’t get anywhere. Sure, in some cases it does, but you don’t need the latest gear to take some epic photos. The Air Up There was a collaboration between two of Toronto’s most mysterious photographers and filmmakers Ryan Emon and Tom Ryaboi (AKA Rooftopper)....

Even if you’re too old for cartoons (as if you can ever be), I’m sure you know about Frozen. In February 2018, this Oscar-winning story is getting a Broadway show. Photographer Andrew Eccles photographed the actors for Vanity Fair, and in this video, they let you take a peek behind the scenes of this photo shoot. The Broadway cast of Frozen includes Caissie Levy as Elsa, Patti Murin as her sister Anna, and Jelani Alladin as Kristoff....

When you’re out in public, you can’t expect much privacy (in spite of “Karens” like this and this who would disagree). However, this might change soon, at least under some circumstances. Tennessee lawmakers and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office have proposed a bill that would make “embarrassing” and “offensive” nonconsensual photos illegal and punishable by law. Current state law states that people who are willingly in public can’t expect privacy....
