While most of the buzz for Canon mirrorless has been around the impending EOS R5, they were also expected to be announcing a lower end EOS R6 at some point this year. Originally, it was expected that we might hear an announcement during Photokina that was originally scheduled to go ahead this month but which has since, obviously, been cancelled. Even in spite of shipping delay rumours, an online announcement had still been expected for May, but according to Canon Rumors, the EOS R6 announcement now won’t come until July....

Another new announcement from Canon today, but this time, it’s a camera. Two, technically. They’re the Canon ML-100 and ML-105, which feature 35mm full-frame CMOS sensors. They’re designed primarily for industrial use, but with that large sensor and high ISO performance, there’s sure to be some low-light attraction for filmmakers, too. They’re modular cameras, designed to work with other kit, like external recorders – as there’s no native internal recording in either of the cameras....

Phase One has officially launched Capture One 11, the latest version of their RAW conversion and image editing software. It builds on the previous version, but it’s packed with new and improved features. It seems that the main focus was making the workflow faster and more efficient for the users, and from the preview, the updates sound really useful. The company says they have responded to customer’s needs with the latest version of the software....

I’m sure there aren’t many of you who haven’t stumbled upon the “Distracted Boyfriend” meme somewhere on the Internet. It caught fire last year and ended up having thousands of hilarious variations. And although we connect it with the present time, it seems like Charlie Chaplin invented it way back in 1922. Film writer Peter Goldberg posted a screenshot from Charlie Chaplin’s short film Pay Day, where he turns around to check out another woman in the street while his wife is next to him....

Chimera have just announced a pair of new self-levelling lighting boom arms, allowing you to quickly raise and lower your lights without having to adjust the hight of your light stand, or readjust the angle of your light & modifier. If your first thought, like mine, was “Awesome, cheap camera jib!”, then I would suggest you brace yourself. The “Compact” version costs $550 and the “Standard” version has a price tag of $700....

Composites are awesome, I just love it when a good composite comes together throwing me into an imaginary world. Doing good stills composites is not easy, but when you combine that with video, it looks virtually impossible. If you thought those $3-5K cine lenses were expensive, you’ve seen nothing yet. Cooke Optics, arguably one of the best in the business when it comes to cinema lenses, has just launched their new full-frame S8/i series lenses that cost a crazy $35,000(ish) each. They’re kicking things off with seven lenses, available to pre-order right away with a further nine lenses coming before the year ends. Creating a commercial shoot from scratch is somewhere between business and art. On the art side, you want to make sure you are proud of what you have created, and on the business side, you have to meet a deadline, keep a budget and deal with a client. There is a lot to be said on how to manage the business side of such a shoot, but today I want to focus on the artistic side....

I will say, right off the bat, the photography itself is pretty amazing, but this video recently released by Canon is eerily similar to a D500 & SB-5000 promo video Nikon put out with Keith Ladzinski back in April. Canon’s “The Shot”, with Krystle Wright takes some speedlights and mounts them on drones in order to be able to get the flashes where no light stand can go, just like Nikon did....

The popup flash sucks. There’s no two ways about it. It’s small, too close to the lens, produces a bunch of red eye, it’s just horrible. These reasons, and more, are why many of the higher end cameras don’t even have one. But not everybody starts out with a bunch of lighting gear. They may not know that it even exists, or what to do with it even if they had it....

Even though I’m not primarily a Canon shooter, I’m always intrigued by the concept cameras and sensors that Canon bring to show off at shows around the world. During The Photography Show, Canon brought two with them. Actually, they brought a bunch, but they all basically stem from two different types of camera. DJI has recently confirmed that some of the Matrice 200 drones are randomly falling out of the sky. The drones lose power mid-flight despite the indicator showing that there’s more battery life. And after investigating the issue, it turns out that the problem is in faulty batteries. According to DJI, some TB50 and TB55 batteries have shown incorrect power levels. As a result, the drones are falling out of the sky mid-flight....

Demands on technology companies these days are pretty intense. It used to be that a company released a product, customers either loved it or hated it, and then a new model came out in 5 or so years to replace it. Today, it’s very different. No sooner had the Sony A7III been announced, for example, than wishlists appeared for a theoretical Sony A7IV. People want to see new camera kit far more often than they used to....

DJI has officially announced its newest iteration of the DJI Osmo Pocket camera gimbal. Not surprisingly, it’s called the DJI Pocket 2 (they’ve dropped the “Osmo”, seeming inline with dropping the “Onin” on their other new gimbals) and on the outside, it looks almost identical to its predecessor, save for a couple of extra buttons below the LCD. On the inside, though, it’s had quite the overhaul. It still keeps some of the features of the original DJI Osmo Pocket, like 4K 60fps video, although DJI says that a new HDR video option will be coming with a future firmware update....

And it got me thinking, how crucial makeup is not only on a shoot but to a photographer’s career. With my body of work, which a big part is fantasy and horror, I probably would not be at the point I am now without the help and support of all the makeup artists I have worked with....

In January current year, DxoMark split from DxO Labs and according to recent rumors, another big change is about to come inside DxO Labs. As some sources state, the company is about to go into receivership, although the reasons are still unfamiliar. Someone noticed on Canon Rumors forum that DxO Labs is going into receivership. The user who posted it, Mt Spokane Photography, says that he’s not familiar with French Bankruptcy Laws, but it appears that the company will be sold or auctioned off....

Baron Wolman, the author of some of the most iconic rock and roll photos, passed away on Monday. He was the first Rolling Stone staff photographer and a person who documented Woodstock, as well as many other events in the 1960s and later. Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and many other legends were in front of his lens. Wolman was born on 25 June 1937. His photographic career began in West Berlin in the 1960s, where he was in the military....
