One of the biggest complaints about smartphone gimbals, particularly with the size of today’s phones is that they typically attach via a springy “claw” type mechanism. This can be troublesome with huge phones, often pressing the buttons on the side of your phone when you least want them to. You can shift the phone over, of course, but then it’s all out of balance, stressing the motors and battery. A new leak of what appears to be the DJI Osmo Mobile 4 seems to fix that, though, by using magnets to hold your phone safely onto the gimbal....

Insta360 is on a roll right now with great little cameras. Since the launch of the Insta360 ONE X, we’ve seen the Insta360 EVO and now they’ve announced the tiny new Insta360 GO which, despite the name, isn’t actually a 360° camera. It’s a 180° camera, but it features the same Flowstate stabilisation found in its larger siblings for gimbal-free but gimbal-like stabilisation. It’s designed to be super small, super lightweight and wearable for capturing your daily life or anything you might want to record while wearing a camera....

Sony was always a weird player in the action cam arena. While everyone was doing GoPro like cameras (aside contour, maybe), they were sticking to their weird camcorder design. But now it seems that their different form factor is also holding some best in market features. Most notably is stabilized 4K recording. Sony released two new action cameras. They are both white, which is a plus over GoPro already, but its the tech under the hood which is more interesting....

The thief who stole $40,000 worth of photography gear from News Corp photographer at Rio olympics was caught by the same photographer he stole from – Brett Costello. It was not enough for the thief to steal Costello’s $40,000 gear set, and he wanted more. I am not sure if the next step is more bold or more stupid. The thief wore Costello’s media jacket, probably to get an easier pass through security....

On Saturday, thieves smashed a photographer’s car window and stole all the gear that was inside. The theft left Manchester-based photographer Kenny Clayton not only without ~$9,000 worth of gear but also without all the photos he has done in the last five years. According to MSN, Clayton left his car at the NCP car park on Store Street. He was taking a lunch break, and after returning to his car, he found a smashed windscreen....

When Matt decided that he needed to change the tire on his car, he thought “hey, why don’t I stick a GoPro in here while it’s open and see how that looks from the inside as I drive?”. So, that’s exactly what he did. Inside the rim, Matt mounted a GoPro Hero 7 Black with an LED light so you could actually see what was going on in there, along with a Mophie power bank to supply everything with power....

The camera takes batteries, the lights take batteries, remotes, phones, monitors. Actually, most devices take more than one battery. And every battery set want their own charger. And every charger want it’s out power outlet. It’s a nightmare. If you wanted to take it all on location you’d end up with a messy table full of cable spaghetti....
