According to a report on Digital Camera World, Canon will not be releasing anymore EF mount lenses for their DSLRs, despite having just announced the Canon 1DX Mark III, their new flagship DSLR, only yesterday. They say they are open to the possibility of making new ones, though, if the market demands it. But for now, they want to shift their attention towards RF lenses for their EOS R system....
Canon has released a number of new firmware updates for its EOS R3, EOS R5 and EOS R6 mirrorless cameras. Amongst the standout features are the EOS R3’s newfound ability to shoot 1080p video at up to 240 frames per second in “High frame rate” mode. You can also set a maximum number of images to shoot when in high-speed continuous shooting mode. You’re able to choose anywhere from 2 to 50 images at speeds of around 30-195fps....
Well, yesterday’s rumours of an upcoming Canon EOS R8 and EOS R50 announcement seem a little more real today. And there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that Asobinet is reporting a leaked spec sheet for the Canon EOS R8, telling us pretty much all of the main vital information on the camera. The bad news, though, is that it appears the Canon EOS R8 will not contain an in-body image stabilisation system....
Canon has filed yet another interesting patent: a gadget of the past and the future at the same time. Yes, it’s a selfie stick – but on the next level. While the selfie stick is so 2014, Canon’s new patent adds an interesting twist to the gadget I thought we all forgot. It comes with a built-in camera and it automatically controls the focal length, as well as the length and angle of the stick itself....
Well, this isn’t like Canon at all. After the big splash and months of build-up over the EOS R5’s launch and its 8K video capabilities, you’d expect they’d make a big deal about the launch of their new 8K EOS Cinema camera, but aside from a few sample clips, apparently not. Bear in mind, this is a camera that’s been more than five years in the making. Canon Marketing Japan has released a new video with a lot of information about their new 8K cinema camera to their YouTube channel a couple of days before Christmas and told… well, pretty much nobody....
But the AFX also has an extra trick up its sleeve. It now also allows you to add LiDAR autofocus support to any lens, including manual focus ones, thanks to new communication protocols added for the Tilta Nucleus-M and Nucleus-Nano focus motors. It’s being launched via Indiegogo, already having hammered its goal with 30 days left. The AFX unit uses a LiDAR Time of Flight sensor, much like DJI’s recently announced add-on for the DJI RS2 gimbal....
Even in the age of high-resolution cameras, it’s still quite difficult to fathom that anyone could create a terapixel image. But that’s precisely what the folks at GIGAmacro did at a SIGGraph Conference in Vancouver, B.C. with an 80 plus-foot long mosaic as its subject. The resulting image is so big that if you were to print it at 300 dpi, it would be taller than the One World Trade Center at 1,825 feet long....

Cine Gear Expo, which was supposed to take place this fall, was cancelled altogether. The reason is not surprising at all – like all events this year, it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Cine Gear Expo was originally scheduled for April this year. Since the pandemic was in full swing around that time, the show was rescheduled for October. The new dates were between 1 and 4 October 2020, but the organizers have now decided to cancel this year’s show completely....
There’s supposed to be a teaser announced later today and the official announcement is expected on May 10th, but the complete specs for DJI’s upcoming Mini 3 Pro drone have leaked, confirming that it has a 48-megapixel 1/1.3″ CMOS sensor capable of shooting 4K HDR video. Well, here’s one I missed while I was away in Amsterdam for IBC 2022, but it looks like Datacolor has finally released a pocket-sized version of their Spyder Checkr (review here) for easier use on location. It’s called the Spyder Checkr Photo and contains the 48 familiar swatches found in its bigger and older sibling. The card is also swappable, allowing you to flip them around for 12 more grey scale swatches for checking brightness and contrast as well as large targets for white balancing....

The company is calling for beta testers for TYCH, its new half-frame 35mm film camera that wants to reinvent film photography. While the concept of half-frame cameras certainly isn’t new, TYCH does offer some unique, creative features such as multiple built-in lenses. DJI has now officially announced the new DJI Mavic 3 Classic. It’s the latest drone in the Mavic 3 line, falling at the lower end of the price range, adding to the standard Mavic 3 and the Mavic 3 Cine. The new Mavic 3 Classic is largely the same as its more expensive siblings, but with one key difference. It still features a Hasselblad-designed 20-megapixel 4/3″ camera with a 24mm equivalent focal length....

It’s pretty usual that at the end of a presidential term, the White House photographer will publish a book showcasing their work. What isn’t so usual, however, is when the former president beats the photographer to the post and publishes a book first, using the photographer’s images. That’s unfortunately exactly what appears to have happened to former White House photographer Shealah Craighead. Donald Trump has already published his own photo book titled “Our Journey Together”, the majority of which contains images shot by Craighead....
When it comes to photography, there are many out there who believe that size matters. For photography collector Jim Headley, it definitely seems true. Built to record space launches from a safe distance, this monster of a lens is a NASA-made Birns and Sawyer 1000mm f/4.5. It’s 25cm in diameter (10″), 1.3m long (4’6″) and weights around 32kg (72lbs). Headley has been collecting cameras for 34 years, and works for The Hastings Tribune in Nebraska, as well as operating his own Old School Art and Camera store....
Today we are cooking film! For those of you who’ve never heard of Film Soup before, don’t worry, it has nothing to do with the soup from your childhood nightmares! It’s basically a technique were you voluntary damage a film with all sorts of chemicals like detergent, alcohol or whatever you want before developing it. This is mostly done with colour negative C-41 and slide film E-6. It can be done with B&W too but the results won’t be so obvious as it is with colour films....
No matter if you shoot film or digital, I’m sure you have at least a few rolls of film lying around the house. Our parents and their parents used film, and many precious memories are saved on it. I’ve seen (and bought) my fair share of Star Wars gadgets and toys. But the guys from FliteTest have taken Star Wars gadgets to a whole new level. They built their own giant Death Star drone to recreate the attack scene. But this one has a slightly different flow and ending, and if you are on the Dark Side, you will shed a tear of joy.
