Advertisements Over the span of just 4 gorgeous September days (only three days of actual shooting), I shot about 16 different concepts – All of which I’m so over the moon excited about, but one of those shoots definitely rose to the top of my brain-excitement-meter. (HINT: Umm, it’s the one I’m writing about that you just saw at the top of this post.) One of the photographers in attendance, Jess Rohl, had recently done a shoot where she used a ton of candles....

Baikal is impressive. It’s the deepest and the cleanest lake on Earth. When we were planning a trip, we didn’t even suspect it is so wonderful, majestic and fairy. We were raptured over its beauty so much, that we almost didn’t sleep all 3 days we were here. Lake Baikal is about 600km in length. The thickness of it reaches 1,5-2 meters. This ice can tolerate the vehicle of about 15 tonnes, but sometimes we saw cars that had been fallen down....

During photokina we payed a visit to the Aperture booth, had a chat with Ted Sim, and we totally fell in love with their new products. Actually, we have been using Aputure’s LEDs for quite a while now, so we were not surprised. What we were surprised with is the price points for the various products. THe fact that they can deliver a $500 field monitor with vectorscope and color parade is quite awesome....

Insta360 has posted a new teaser image and video to social media for a new Insta360 camera to be released on March 9th. There isn’t really much information in the teaser about exactly what may be coming, except that whatever it is is really small and seems to be able to fit into some really tight spaces. It’s been suggested in some of the comments on the teaser image posted to the company’s Facebook page that it might be a follow-up to the popular Insta360 GO POV camera....

File this under non-essential-but-interesting news. Reports are coming out that Instagram is potentially looking at implementing a black and white design throughout the entirety of their application. First reported by Anton Abramov via The Verge, a series of screenshots captured show off a monochromatic interface throughout the entirety of the Instagram iOS app. As expected, it appears this is merely an A/B testing result. In a comment to The Verge, an Instagram spokesperson said, ‘We often test new experiences with a small percentage of the global community […] This is a design test only....

Instagram is currently testing a few new options which will improve the app. But among all of them, one is particularly interesting and it could prevent all those misunderstandings when people share someone else’s photos. In one of its future updates, Instagram will include the native Regram feature, which will let you repost other user’s photos directly through the app. So far, it was possible to repost photos from other users in two ways....

In 2015, director Sean Baker and his crew created feature-length movie Tangerine. You may remember the movie, but also the story behind its creation, as it was filmed entirely with three iPhones. Now one of these iPhones is finding its way to the Academy Museum which opens in 2019, and it will honor the art and science of movies. Tangerine is a story about transsexual prostitute Sin-Dee whose friend tells her that her boyfriend (and pimp) was cheating on her....

Well, the rumour mill seems to have been a little off. It wasn’t Canon that was announcing a new camera today, but Nikon. Nikon has now officially announced their latest addition to their Z mirrorless lineup, the retro FM-inspired Nikon Z fc. It features a 20.9-megapixel APS-C sized sensor paired with an EXPEED 6 processor for fast performance and 4K UHD video. It also seems that Nikon might’ve actually finally figured out how to make a decent vlogging camera....

Sometimes, you see something or get an idea and you just don’t rest until you get it. That’s what happened to Destin Sandlin at Smarter Every Day when he saw an old video of a vortex colliding perfectly with another. This may not sound that cool, but he saw something very unusual. Something he spent a long time researching and couldn’t find answers for. He knew that the only way he could start to find answers was to recreate the experiment for himself....

Whenever I see Andrew McCarthy’s name pop up on my Instagram feed, I know I’ll see and read something amazing. This time, this creative astrophotographer blew my mind with a timelapse of a massive active region of the Sun. It took Andrew solid six hours of observation and shooting this incredible sight, but judging from the end result, it was more than worth it. Andrew published the video back in April....

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa recently joined the crew onboard the International Space Station. While enjoying his exclusive trip around the Earth, he filmed a pretty cool timelapse. He described the experience as “beautiful,” and judging from his video – I have no reason not to believe him. Maezawa, his production assistant Yozo Hirano, and cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin headed to the ISS aboard Russia’s Soyuz MS-20 spacecraft on 8 December. They lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and reached the destination successfully....

It looks like we’re not only seeing the return of Ektachrome from Kodak this year, but they’re also bringing back T-Max P3200 TMZ multi-speed black & white film, too. We don’t know an exact release date yet, but according to a press release, it will become available sometime during March 2018. It will be coming back in 135 (35mm) format 36 exposure rolls. Although called P3200, it’s not actually ISO film....

Laowa’s Argus range has been a little slow in growing, although the few fast prime lenses in the Argus line so far, have proven to be quite popular. Initially, the series launched in January 2021 with a 25mm lens for MFT, 33mm for APS-C and 35mm, and 45mm lenses for full-frame, all with that same wide f/0.95 maximum aperture. Although, that 25mm for MFT did take over a year to actually come to market....

If I had to take a wild guess, I would say that DJI will uncover their next drone in Photokina in two weeks, but some quadcopter-oriented blogs are already sharing leaked images and info. According to heliguy the next DJI consumer drone will be called the DJI Mavic. It will also completely change its core design. bye bye X-shaped massive drone and hello foldable, compact, ready to fly design....

Rollei hasn’t released a new Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex camera in years. This year, however, the iconic brand is poised to “reintroduce the TLR for the modern era” with the Rollei Instant Kamera. In an attempt to attract a new generation of photographers, their new product is going to be compatible with the widely available Fujifilm Instax. With the help of the young instant camera company MiNT, Rollei has created a one of a kind camera that will make any film photography enthusiast excited....

In the past, I’ve not really been big on the whole Lensbaby thing. But, having now tried a few of them in person, I can safely say they’re winning me over. The “Sweet” range of lenses I particularly like for their aesthetic, especially when paired up with a Composer. Now lensbaby have launched a new Sweet 80 lens for the Composer II that looks fantastic. Also announced today is the new Creative Bokeh Optic....

Lomography has come up with some very interesting concepts in the past few years. The company’s latest product combines a DIY approach with film photography and environmental consciousness. It’s LomoMod No.1, a combination of liquid-filled lens and a DIY medium format camera made for you to assemble it from scratch and get creative with it. I personally love this concept, so let’s see what you get and how you can use this little DIY film camera and the accompanying lens....

Capture One is generally touted as the only real Lightroom alternative. Overall, many say that it produces better results, or at least better starting points, but does it really? An interesting article by Martin Evening in the current issue of Photoshop User Magazine suggests that the differences between the two are less than you might think. The article attributes the better initial look of Capture One to more aggressive default sharpening and enhancement of the images....

Looking at the advert for Microsoft’s new Surface Studio they’re taking a square aim at two very distinct products. Obviously they want to take a big chunk out of the Apple iMac’s share of the designer desktop computer market. It also seems, though, that they want to try and replace the Wacom Cintiq, too. As desktop PCs go, the new Surface Studio has an extremely elegant design, and is probably one of the most versatile units to hit the market....
