More photos of the upcoming Olympus PEN E-P7 have leaked, along with prices. At least, the Japan prices, which start at ¥93,500 (~$855) for the body only, and a kit lens option bundled together with the Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens for ¥107,800 (~$986). Speaking of lenses, the new Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8-25mm f/4 Pro is expected to be $1,099. The images and prices come via 43Rumors, and an official announcement is expected to come on June 9th....

It’s so exciting to see the beginning of something new and beautiful. Thanks to NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, we can now see the once-hidden features of the birth of a new star. How exciting is that? Webb’s near-infrared camera captured the protostar within the dark cloud L1527. It looks like a fiery cosmic hourglass, and it’s absolutely magical. This “hourglass” is located within the Taurus star-forming region, and its features are only visible in infrared....

As a kid who grew up with a shelf filled with yellow spines, I can attest to the rhythm and general predictability of a National Geographic cover. With few exceptions (most notably those holographic covers from the 1980s), cover photography from the 1970s, 80s and 90s followed a familiar pattern of a far away place, strange creature, or “exotic” face in saturated color. We were armchair explorers living vicariously through the eyes of those famous photographers – Indiana Joneses with a camera....

The Canon EOS 850D (or Rebel T8i or Kiss X10i in other parts of the world) is expected to be announced at some point this month, either before or during CP+ in Japan. A new teaser released by Nikon for their new mirrorless camera suggests that they might be ditching the DSLR completely. It also offers a bit better look at the body & lens mount. It also suggests that the new mirrorless camera could be aimed squarely at professional users – which would make a lot of sense. Nikon recently celebrated their 100th birthday, and the teaser cycles through the meaningful cameras in Nikon’s history....

Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins had his first victory NFL victory this Sunday. However, he missed the final play of the game because he was busy taking selfies with fans in the stands. Lens roadmaps never used to really be a thing. A company developed a lens, then they announced it, then you could buy it, and that was it. But consumer demand has changed. People are more fickle and prone to swapping brands if they think the competition will offer something better suited to their needs. So, now they seem to be coming thick and fast. So, in order to try and convince people that they are going to deliver what people want, Nikon has updated their Z mount lens roadmap....

During the recent Black Lives Matter protests, the terms “master” and “slave” seem to have suddenly become problematic. After Canon, we now find out that Nikon has changed the terminology in its products as well. Only it was actually long before Canon did it – way back in the early 2000s. “Master” and “slave” are the terms normally used when two different flash units are used simultaneously. The master unit controls the trigger of the slave unit, which is kinda self-explanatory....

The Nikon Z9 is expected to be announced this week and we all suspected that there would probably be at least a couple of leaks leading up to the official announcement. What probably none of us expected is that it would be Nikon themselves who leaked it. But that appears to be exactly what’s happened. Nikon India accidentally posted the Z9 promo video a little early. It’s since been removed, although it’s been downloaded and reposted in a bunch of locations and it confirms some of the specs for the upcoming camera....

Ok, so round one of the Nikon full frame mirrorless rumours ends. It’s now time for round two to begin, as Nikon officially announces the development of a new Nikon full frame mirrorless camera. Did you spot what I said there? “Camera” not “cameras”. This doesn’t discount the possibility of a second rumoured camera, or even an APS-C mirrorless, but they’re only officially confirming one body for now – and they haven’t said whether it’s the rumoured 24-25MP or 48MP camera....

Digimedia Tech LLC has recently filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Nikon. The company alleges that Nikon has appropriated three of its patents, which have been implemented in Coolpix P900 and A1000. According to the lawsuit, Digimedia Tech is “the owner by assignment of all right, title, and interest in and to” three different patents: United States Patent No. 6,914,635, entitled “Microminiature Zoom System for Digital Camera” (“the ‘635 patent”)....

I was wondering what Nikon was going to do to keep itself alive with an ever-shrinking camera market that seems to be slowly but surely turning its back on the 103-year-old company in favour of Sony and Canon. Well, it turns out they’re investing in space. To be more specific, they’ve invested as the major shareholder in US startup Morf3D. Morf3D is an additive manufacturing company supplying the aerospace industry, supplying companies like Boeing, and according to Nikkei Asia, the deal sees Nikon investing 10 billion yen (~$91 million) in the company, becoming a majority stakeholder....

We already knew that Nikon struggling to keep up with the pre-order demand of the Nikon Z fc, after an announcement earlier this month telling us exactly that. That original announcement said that the Z fc and Zfc 28mm f/2.8 Special Edition Kits were both scheduled to be released late this month, but that there are going to be delays and it will take some time for items to be delivered....

Well, it looks like there’s a flood of new cameras about to come in from Canon, Nikon and Fuji, along with a number of lenses from Canon and Sony, a new speedlight and a Nikon memory card – which I’m guessing is going to be CFexpress. According to Digicame-Info, a screenshot posted to “a huge bulletin board” lists a number of products from the four manufacturers. Canon lists six digital cameras, 2 photography lenses, 2 cinema lenses (technically one lens in two mount options) and a speedlight....

It’s been over 2 months now since the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in North Kensington, London, causing the deaths of at least 80 people. Shortly afterwards, to the dismay of local residents, it became something of a tourist attraction. Attracting selfie shooters from afar. Visitors were then asked to refrain from this disrespectful practise. This weekend is the Notting Hill Carnival, one of the highlights of London’s annual calendar....

So, the whole 3D photos thing that’s been getting blasted all over Facebook the last year or so has typically been an iPhone thing (thanks to its depth sensor). And, sure, you can take any image and create your own 3D photos in Photoshop, but it’s a bit of a long-winded hassle. What if there was an app that could let you create 3D photos automatically on any phone? Well, now there is....

This whole “computational photography” thing always felt a little bit weird. But it also intrigued me. The idea that a computer can realistically create things that weren’t actually shown in the original shot is pretty amazing. Maybe it was seeing this scene in Blade Runner as a kid that did it for me. It was pure fantasy back then, but we’re getting there. A new “computational zoom” technology developed by researchers at Nvidia and UCSB brings us a step closer to Deckard’s reality....

A few days ago, former US President Barack Obama tweeted Pete Souza’s photo, along with a quote of Nelson Mandela. The photo, quote, and the message seem to have really reached and touched people. The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker (we’ll just call it TG-Tracker), is the newly announced action camera from Olympus looking to take on the likes of GoPro for market supremacy. OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro were announced earlier this year, and now they’re getting a major update. Their camera was co-engineered with Hasselblad, and now both phones are getting a dedicated Hasselblad Xpan shooting mode. Paying a tribute to the unique film camera, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro can now simulate the look of the Xpan. The XPan was a unique and innovative camera. It used 35mm film, but allowed users to switch between formats....
